Tesamorelin is a stabilized analog of growth hormone releasing hormone, and Theratechnologies sells the approved version as Egrifta. The FDA cleared the original in 2010 for reducing excess visceral abdominal fat in adults with HIV associated lipodystrophy, and on March 25, 2025 it approved a reformulated version, Egrifta WR, which is reconstituted weekly and uses less than half the injection volume of the older daily formulation.

Tesamorelin has two full phase 3 trials you can pull up tonight. The pivotal one (Falutz et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 2007) ran 412 patients for 26 weeks on 2mg daily subcutaneous. Visceral adipose tissue fell 15.2 percent on tesamorelin and climbed 5.0 percent on placebo. The pooled analysis of both phase 3 trials (Falutz et al., Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2010) covered 806 randomized patients and landed in the same range, roughly a 15 percent treatment effect on visceral fat.

Two limits worth stating plainly. That approval covers HIV associated lipodystrophy specifically, and material sold through research supply channels carries a research use label. Separately, tesamorelin is absent from the FDA's Category 2 list of bulk substances flagged for compounding safety risks, a list that does include BPC-157, TB-500, epitalon, and melanotan II. That is a quiet point in its favor.
